Merrell says they make “quality performance footwear” but I think that’s an understatement. The Merrell brand is addictive. Their entire line of shoes answers so many needs it’s scary. They’re great-looking, comfortable, and can take a beating. I’ve never been much of a shoe fiend, but was known to occasionally buy and wear some stupid shoes. Phases? Maybe. But whatever you want to call them, my feet suffered. Soon enough I learned that good looks were not worth the pain associated. Until I discovered my first pair of Merrells, I thought cute, practical, and comfortable couldn’t coexist. But they do. And quite happily, I may add.
Merrell touts itself as being outdoorsy and hi-performance. That may have scared me off had I not seen them in person. I am not a jock or a high peaks climber. I like to walk through the woods, hop from rock to rock across creeks and rivers, amble through wet grass. I also work in an office and have to look presentable. I own pairs of Merrells that go from the woods to the office to dinner out without second thought.
It sounds simplistic, but they’re built like the person who designed them really cared about how they would feel on our feet. The arch support is perfect, there are straps and buckles and Velcro so they adjust as needed, they breathe, they are padded in just the right places, they have extended rubber up the back of the heel like old fashioned driving shoes (protects the back from wear), the soles are thick enough to provide cushion but not so thick that they look orthopedic. Oh, and the styling is exceptional.
Their range of styles is impressive: sandals, mocs, slides, mary janes, loafers, sneakers, hikers, and boots. And in my experience, they are true to fit.
Another plus: they are environmentally conscientious. They support the National Park Foundation, help build trails and parks in cities and in wilds.
Flexible styling, genuine comfort, and tough as nails – that’s Merrell. I don’t know how I lived without them.

I was shocked at the poor quality of these shoes when I tried them recently, the interior lining in not sewn in or even glued, it seems they use left over scraps of cloth that are not cleanly trimmed, after five days of walking around town, I never even took them out for a run, the lining was tearing apart, both models are "designed" this way, I can only assume this serious design flaw will be fixed in the next version...
Most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. I have purchased them for my last 4 pairs of shoes. They also wear very well.
Yesterday, I purchased Merrell Chemeleon Stretch shoes from REI. I ended up having to return them today because I discovered a tear on the wet suit like material found in the inside of the shoe. I exchanged them for another pair. When I took them home, I sadly found another tear in the wet suit like material in the interor of the replacement left shoe. This shoe is a very comfortable shoe, but I feel that it might be poorly made, and not worth the $110.00. I am going back to REI tomorrow to get a refund.
I own 3 pair of Merrell Chameleon II shoes, and love them. They have held up extremely well, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. I have seen the occasional review where someone was unhappy with the way the shoes wore. Personally I have not experienced that, and most people are very happy with their Merrell shoes. They are very comfortable, and the Chameleon IIs just look cool. Every once in a while, like anything, they don't work out for someone...which seems to the the case with the last comment. I hope this person has had better luck with your other shoes. Thanks for visiting the site, and your comment. I hope you come back.
I owned a pair of Merrell's in the early 2000's and in a very short time they developed a rip. Of course the store I bought them from wouldn't do anything about them. In the last month, I've tried on a dozen different Merrell's, I've bought two different brands, and had to return them because of flaws in stitching, leather imperfections, and they generally dug into my feet, making them the most uncomfortable pair of shoes I've owned. I can't believe the poor workmanship of these shoes, and the cost they are charging for them. I'll NEVER buy another pair of these pieces of crap.
When most people think about the latest technology, walking shoes are not what first comes to mind. However, many companies have realized that there are new scientific studies as well as new materials available that will allow them to make walking easier on the human body and less likely to cause injury.
