Introducing Skechers Resistance Runners, Resistor Run SRR
Skechers claims that the SRR is the "world's first smart shoe." What does this mean? A biomechanical memory that corrects your stride. Can this really work?
Skechers claims that the Resistance Runner:

Inspiring, isn't it? Let's learn more...
There are some concerns about the Skechers SRR Shoes that others have raised. The three major concerns are:
Concern 1: The shoes change your running gait, causing you to land on your heels - the force of which can result in injuries to your ankles and knees. And long-term effects of wearing toning shoes have not been determined.
Fact: Unlike the original Shape-Ups, the Skechers Resistance Runners do not change your gait while running. The heel does not collapse - it compresses and springs back. The accusation that these shoes will change your gait and do you harm is uniformed, and very irresponsible. The vast majority of the time these are comments made by people having little, or no, knowledge about toning shoes. 99.9% of the people who make these comment have never tried the shoes on, and have done no serious research.
It is important to note that most people jog. Jogging is different than running or sprinting. When you run, you land on the balls of your feet. When jogging in the Skechers Resistance Runner shoes, you land on the base of your foot, and then because of the rocker bottom, your foot rolls to the ball of your foot, where you push off. This is your natural jogging motion, and does not change.
Skechers Resistance Runners do not change your gait when sprinting, running, or jogging. Because of the design of the shoes, the greatest benefits of the shoes are achieved when jogging.
As far as long-term adverse effects go, tt should also be pointed out that MBT developed the collapsible heel back in 1996. During this time (14 years to date) there have been no reports of long-term adverse affects when wearing their shoe. I would think 14 years would serve as sufficient time to determine any long-term adverse effects. Currently there are no studies that have found rocker bottom toning shoes to cause adverse effects. Like it or not toning shoes are hear to stay. Let's put this one to rest.
Concern 2: The kinetic wedge and leaf spring energy return system will act as a spring-like return force that adds additional strain on your joints.
Fact: The kinetic wedge and leaf spring energy return system in the Skechers SRR absorbes energy, and then returns it to propel you forward. It greatly reduces the typical pounding that occurs when running or jogging. It changes jogging from a high impact exercise to more of a low impact exercise.
Concern 3: The instability of the shoes will cause your ankles to roll, or your knees to twist.
Fact: The Skechers Resistance Runner does not have the same lateral instability that the original Shape-Ups do. They are stable enough to allow for lateral movement. They are not as stable as high-quality running shoes, but are as stable as your typical cross training shoe.
This isn't the first rocker bottom shoe that can be used for running. There are other shoes that have been out for a while, before the SRR, including the Sano by Mephisto (my personal favorite). But what Skechers Resistance Runner has done is to design a rocker-bottom shoe that can be used for running or walking, that is much more affordable (about half the price of the other rocker bottom shoes). This shoe is based on the technology behind their popular walking shoe, Skechers Shape Ups, but with the SRR they have raised the bar. The Resistance Runner does things Shape Ups can't.
The Skechers Resistance Runner is looking to do for running what the Skechers Shape Ups did for walking - make the basic exercise of running more fun, more efficient, and add a new dimension to your workout.
The mechanical spring in the sole reduces the impact of foot strike while running, and returns the energy, which propels you forward. It is a very unique feeling you have to experience.
Skechers Shape Ups are like walking in sand, while Skechers SRRs are like running barefoot on soft springy moss. Walking and running in these shoes is effortless. What's interesting is, after a 30 minute jog, I found my muscles were more fatigued than usual. Jogging in the Skechers Resistance Runners seemed to work my muscles in a different way than the Shape Ups. This was surprising, because while wearing the Skechers SRRs I was truly enjoying my jog (which I don't normally do). I usually jog for 30 minutes, but I felt I could go much longer. It was like achieving a runner's high much faster.
Technology-wise, Skechers Resistance Runners have an ultralight, injection molded kinetic footbed, leaf spring energy return system, high-viscosity kinetic wedge technology, and a high-abrasion, ultra-light rubber outsole.
The shoe also features:
They come in several colors, including Black/Silver, White/Pink, Charcoal/Turquoise, and Charcoal/Orange for Women, and Black/Silver, White/Navy/Lime, Charcoal/Red, and Gray/Blue for Men. Note: the line has now greatly expanded to 32 different styles.
Women's full and half sizes are available from 5 to 11.
Men's full and half sizes are available from 7 to 14.
Sizing: Feels true to size, to a half size small
Width: Feels true to width
I did not start out a fan of Skechers Toning Shoes. I personally prefer MBTs. But the Skechers Resistance Runner is different. In my opinion, it is Skecher's best shoe, and has earned a spot on my shoe rack. The SRR is not another "me too" entry ino the popular toning shoe market, and does everything the Skechers SRT promised to do. The Skechers SRR breaks new ground with the most versatile toning shoe I've worn.
Considering it is based on the proven rocker bottom technology, the answer is a clear yes. The Skechers Resistance Runner is truly fitness equipment. And they are also great looking shoes, which also helps.
If you consider yourself a trend setter, the Skechers Resistance Runner has the potential of being the next "Big Thing" in running shoes. They are very flexible. They are great walking shoes, running shoes, or cross training shoes. And they are as comfortable as shoes costing twice as much, which was something I really did not expect. Be the first in your neighborhood to sport a pair, and start turning heads as you run by.
The only negative I had with the Skechers Resistance Runner was buying them. Only one store in my city (the 2nd largest city in MI) had them in stock. The selection was very limited. For now, your best option is to order them online.
As I said earlier, the Skechers Resistance Runners are very hard to find. They are a high demand shoe, that is backordered by most vendors (this includes Skechers.com). Expect this to continue until Skechers can increase production to keep up with demand. For those of us who want the shoes this can be very fustrating. Some people have purchased shoes that didn't fit, and tried to return, or exchange, them which has just added to the problem. Make sure you order them in your size, or a half size larger. This will help with the backorder problem. There is one retailer that I know has the Skechers Resistance Runner in stock.
The Most Trusted Online Shoe Retailer carries the Skechers SRR Shoes. They are one of Skechers top online retailers. Many outlets are completely out of stock, or have limited quantities. This online retailer has the best price of any authorized retailer. Free Shipping. Best of all they have the most liberal return policy of any shoe retailer on the Internet. A no hassle return policy is always a plus when ordering anything online. Customer support representatives are available 7 days a week, if you ever have a question about your order. They are a family owned business, that was one of the first shoe retailers to go online (back in 1996).

I have wondered the exact same thing. Anyone know?
I love these shoes, however, if I'm walking more than 5 miles, I will usually get blisters on the outer edge of my arch. I have found that taping a gauze pad to that area before my walk can usually prevent blisters. This is better than the pain from plantar fasciitis I use to get with other walking shoes. I hope this helps.
hi thanks for your review, i got these shoes for walking because i have fubromyalgia and get body pain in legs torsoo etc. i have been on 4 20 min walks. my left foot feels great in these shoes but the right foot after ten mins starts to get a really heavy aache aand slight burning feeling under the foot on the outer edge in the mid section of my foot. i want to keep trying these shoes does aanyone have any thought or suggestions? many thanks
I was just wondering. Since the shape of SRR shoes is designed in such a way to promote leg workout. Will the resistance running shoes build calf muscles? Is it designed to increase and bulk up muscles?
I have been running and playing tennis for many years and have had all sorts of foot problems from plantar fasciitis to Achilles tendinitis including heel spurs. I have to admit I was skeptical at first but I found the SRR to be a good shoe especially if you suffer from foot problems. It certainly reduces the impact that your heels take from normal walking and running. The heels are soft and yet you don't feel out of balance when you walk. I also felt my quads and calves get a little workout when wearing the SRR as opposed to a standard running shoe however I have yet to try this on long distance running as I need more stability which I don't feel this one can offer me based on my running style.
when i first saw the shape ups a few years ago, they were bulky and really ugly, even if they worked, i wouldnt buy it. also, a bit put off that they were not meant for running. i do think you'll sprain your ankle soon enough on them. but to be fair, the sales person did tell me NOT to run in them. anyway, recently, with the SRR, it looks great! just like normal running shoes. the first moment i put them on, they fit like a glove, and my first jog in them were just great! I LOVE IT! very stable and i do feel more of my muscles working, Now i love jogging in them. in a short time, i can go further and faster, and enjoy jogging (used to hate it, maybe cos i have cheapo shoes!) i am not a runner or pro, but just a sligtly overweight 42 year-old, trying to loose a little weight by jogging. I am glad i bought these shoes and started my weight loss program in them.
love them, been wearing them for a week now, these shoes are incredible.
I started running several months ago by starting on a "Couch to 5K" program. The problem was that, as I progressed, my ankles started to hurt after running and never felt quite right unless I rested for a few days between runs. I'm not the sort of guy that cares a whole lot about shoes. I usually just pick up the cheapest shoe I can find and wear it until it basically falls apart. But motivated as I was by the pain in my ankles which prevented me from running as much as I wanted to, I decided to give SRR a try. I was (and still am!) skeptical of the claims made by skechers regarding additional calories burned and different muscle groups worked. Walking/Running in these shoes does feel a little different, but I didn't find that my muscles were any more or less "worked out" after running in these shoes. So that's a wash as far as I can tell. What I did find was that these are very comfortable running shoes. Normally I have to break my shoes in quite a bit before they become comfortable, and running any significant distance in brand new shoes is a great way to develop some impressive blisters! Not so with the SRR! They were comfortable in the store and comfortable on my very first run. But more importantly, my ankles no longer hurt after running! I'm now able to run every day if I like, and I can run faster and farther as well. I don't even bother using my ankle braces anymore! Now that could very well be because I was running in bargain basement running shoes before. I have no point of reference to compare an expensive, high quality running shoe to the SRR. For all I know they'd be every bit as comfortable and protect my joints just as well. But that's really beside the point now. The fact is that, for me, these shoes are fantastic and I will definitely be buying them in the future once these wear out! Call me an SRR fan!
I just heard about these shoes, hope Skechers has some down at the store tomorrow.
I think you can using them to train and during the race. The resistance runners should allow you to perform well in all aspects of running.
Kind of a dumb question, but let's say you're training for a 5K race or something. Would you want to wear them just while training, or would you want to wear them for the race as well?
I have an aggrivated achilles injury that bothers any time I do alot of working out. Today was my first day using the Skechers Resistance Runners to run on the treadmil and I felt no pain in my achilles whatsoever when I was done. Overall I think these shoes are a complete success as I have been looking for a shoe that does not over exert my injured achilles (been injured since 2007) and this is it. I highly reccommend this to anyone that has any kind of lower body injuries...these will help train the supporting muscles surrounding the injury. I have tried every shoe you can think of from Shox, Saucony, New Balance, Brooks, etc. None of these worked like my very first use of running with the SRRs. Very impressed. I am gonna purchase another pair very soon. I hope this helps anyone that was on the fence about purchasing!
Hi Bob - I would go as far as to say they are one of the most comfortable shoes for walking I have worn. This is coming from a guy who tries on a couple dozen pair of shoes every week.
I am looking for a good pair of shoes for walking. I have been using New Balance 621's and find that they just don't give the support or cushion after a month or so. Can the SRR Resistance Runners be used for walking or just strictly for running or jogging? If not, is there another Skechers shoe that would work better for walking? Bob A.
Thanks for this review. You told me everything I needed to know about this shoe, and more. I suffer from sciatica and walking is painful because my heel to toe step is very weak. This sounds like a great shoe to help me walk. It would be nice to know if their are any other sciatica sufferers have commented on this shoe. I will be back to comment again after I try them. Thanks.
I don't think the SRR would do any harm, but I'm not sure it would help prevent reinjury any more than an other quality running shoe. Achilles tendon injuries can be tricky. Reinjury could occur with even a slight misstep.
I have just started back running after 4 months off due to an achilles tendon injury. Any thoughts as to whether the SRT would be helpful in avoiding reinjury?
I am trying not to be a skeptic, but a recent masters grad with a lot of loans to pay off can't just be spending money here and there. This article convinced me to give them a shot, I will report back.
Because of the structure of the SRR, I think it is a more comfortable shoe for standing and walking.
Are these shows great for a Massage Therapist or the Shape-ups, which shoe will work better.
How do these shoes work on someone with high arches?
I am a heavy runner at 225 lbs. I have tried running in Brooks Beast, Shape Ups and several MBT models. None of these shoes allowed me to run without pain in my feet, ankles and knees. These SRRs are nothing short of a miracle. It was like running in jello. I've been looking for shoes with this much padding, cushioning and comfort forever. I've always been willing to sacrifice weight and style for cushioning and finally someone has made the shoe I was looking for.
I also have an issue with over pronation because of flat feet. I find the SRR a very comfortable shoe, and like you, not many running shoes work for me. You might want to try the Aetrex Lynco L420 Sports Orthotic. It's posted heel really helps with pronation. It might fix the problem with the other running shoes you have. I do have to admit, I had a hard time spending $60 for an orthotic, but it has made a huge difference and I'm so glad it did. I purchased a couple of them and wear them in all of my shoes.
I am usually a new balance girl for running, but I pronate and have to use shoes that have the motion control or the roll bar, I'm wondering if these help with pronating...I love my every day sketchers and would love to try some running shoes, but I want to make sure these will work for me before I purchase yet another pair of running shoes that don't do wehat i need them to.
Just trying to be responsible with my advice. Sounds like you are not letting your arthritis limit you. I hope the Resistance Runners work for you. We all would be very interested in what you think.
Just to let you know I run in Brooks Trance I have arthritis in bith knees. I just bought the new resistance runners I have not got them but can't wait to try them I have run is 4 5ks so far where a knee brace and go for it!
I'm not a doctor, but in my opinion running (in any shoes) probably isn't a good option with your condition. If you feel pain when running right away, you might want to try them on in a store, and jog around the store a bit. They might let you run up and down the mall. I own a lot of comfort shoes (athletic and casual), and the SRRs are as comfortable as any I own. If any shoe can absorber the shock of running enough to lessen your pain when running, these shoes can.
Still skeptical. I have arthritis and miss running very much. Anyone out there (MD's or other in my situation) have any medical input or experience with these shoes? Will they actually help run without pain?? I know running is bad for the knees, but miss running.
My mom has been raving about the normal shape-ups so I decided to try them on at the store. The regular walking shoe was too bulky and dorky for me. A sales associate pointed out the Resistance Runners. I tried them on and I am still a little skeptical. After reading your review I feel much more confident and can't wait to go for a "jog" :) Thanks!
Just received my Skechers Resistance Runners, and I love them. Very comfortable, and fun to wear. Your review was spot on. Thanks!
I've been waiting a few weeks for these shoes to come out, but wasn't sure if there were much different than the Shape Ups SRTs. Since none of the shoe stores have them in stock, I was looking for a review that would give me an idea of how the SRRs performed. After reading your review I decided to order them. Thanks!
