Born Shoes: A Masterwork of Craftsmanship

Walking Shoes - By Laurie Willson on Wednesday, June 23, 2010 - 10:18

There’s no way around it, you can’t be a shrinking violet when you’re wearing a pair of Born’s. They are built and styled for traipsing, strutting, gliding, and stomping – but not tip-toeing around. When you want to be noticed, stand out in a crowd, be more than a little different, Born footwear should be adorning your feet. They make shoes for everyone – women, men, and children – but their women’s line has the most variety with sandals, flats, heels, clogs, casuals, and boots. And none of them are dull.

The most amazing thing (other than the styles) is that each pair is hand sewn by an artisan. It takes time and talent to create every pair, and the quality and beauty are proof.  The shoes are built using an old-fashioned hand-stitching technique that uses two needles to create incredibly strong interlocking stitches. Fine leather makes them durable and flexible, while shock absorbing foam makes them comfortable. The foam also reduces slippage because it molds to your foot so they feel like they wee made just for you. Born strives to keep the shapes of their shoes natural so the wearer feels like they are walking barefoot. The toe box is wide to allow the toes to lay flat and wiggle and the extra room helps keep the foot more cool and comfortable. They use durable products such as polyurethane or rubber outsoles to absorb shock and help relieve the stress and pressure feet are under when standing or walking. All of their footwear has a sock liner: the classic styles have leather and the sporty styles use a fabric along with foam called Dryz. Leather naturally wicks moisture to keep feet dry and cool. The fabric pulls sweat away from the foot and the Dryz foam absorbs it where it evaporates without odor or bacteria formation.

When they say, “Each shoe is a masterwork of craftsmanship, comfort and style,” they aren’t overstating the facts. These shoes are masterpieces of art and craft that you can wear all day every day.

I bought two different kinds of born shoes when they first came out. The shoes say patent pending. I just wore them out after like 10 years of heavy use and was excited to buy more. I have bought 5 pair over the net just to turn around and return them. Now the shoes wear tight, the bottoms are thin, they are light and feel cheep, and whats up with the all the rounded toes. My old shoes looked like a boot all leather inside and out. Putting them on was heaven. Sorry to say the new ones have went way down hill just like a chain reasturant. SO DISAPOINTED! GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS BORN!

I bought a pair of Born boots and am very disapointed with them. They look very nice but first time I wore them my feet were soaking wet... so much for paying for good quality footwear! Next time I'll buy a cheaper pair so I'll feel less frustrated.
